Earliest meeting: Thursday 28th June 1838
Final meeting: Monday 17th April 1882
The Norfolk and Norwich race committee organised a series of race meetings stretching over at least 44 years using a range of courses. The early meetings were held on Mousehold Heath, beginning with a two day card on Thursday 28th and Friday 29th June 1838. On Wednesday 8th September 1841 the Norfolk and Norwich Handicap Stakes was won by Mr C Crawshay’s Rory O’More on Mousehold Heath. The group were nomadic and transferred their attention to Barnham Broom for a few years, although in 1846 the meeting was meant to be at Barnham Broom but, in the event, took place at the village of Colton on Wednesday 8th April 1846. The main Sweepstakes was won by Little John, owned by Mr Beaumont, who got the better of Novice and Lord Suffield’s Shamrock.  Racing later transferred to the village of Trowse in 1865, a meeting which was deemed sufficiently successful for racing to continue for a good number of years before moving to Hethersett on 8th March 1875. The final card organised by the Norfolk and Norwich Hunt Club was on Monday 17th April 1882.
